Fall Adventures Await
From beautiful fall color drives to a jaunt through a local apple orchard, an authentic autumn experience is waiting for everyone in the Great Rivers & Routes region just minutes from St. Louis.

The 2019 Fall Adventure Guide, available from the Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau, is now available complete with fall color driving itineraries, haunted tours to take, listings for orchards and roadside stands and a full view of all of the great festivals and events happening in September and October. The Fall Getaway Guide is available for free by calling 1-800-258-6645.
Take a scenic fall color road trip using the driving routes featured in the guide. Take your pick of four different fall Roadtrips which loop along the Mississippi River, through the countryside and across the rivers using local ferries. Or take a different path along historic Route 66.
Looking for a ghostly good time? Check out Haunted Alton, take a spirited stroll through Carlinville, visit the authentically haunted McPike Mansion or enjoy the various walking and trolley tours available.
The guide also includes a map with the best apple orchards, pumpkin patches and roadside cider stands throughout the region, in addition to highlights of some of the must-see festivals and events taking place in September and October.
Some of the more popular festivals and attractions will be returning again this year, including the following:
- Great Godfrey Maze, Godfrey, IL – Get Your "Golden Ticket” at the Great Godfrey Maze! The Maze opens for the season on Sept. 20 and runs through Nov. 3. The public can begin their a-mazing quest as they twist and turn through this maze cut out of a seven-acre cornfield. In October, get the heart-pounding as the maze becomes haunted! - Vintage Voices, Alton, IL –Experience history firsthand in the Alton City Cemetery Oct. 5 & 6 & Oct. 12 & 13 from Noon to 3 p.m. at the annual Vintage Voices. The cemetery will be “coming alive” with the voices of Alton’s past, the late and legendary descendants recognized both locally and nationally. - Edwardsville Art Fair, Edwardsville, IL. For three days at the end of September, City Park in downtown Edwardsville comes to life with the works of more than 100 artists. Check out work from national and regional artists Sept. 27 - 29.
- Italian Fest, Collinsville, IL. Immerse yourself in all things Italian during the 36th annual Italian Fest in Uptown Collinsville Sept. 20 & 21. Watch a competitive Grape Stomp and Bocce Bal Tournament or just sit back, sip your favorite beverage and enjoy live entertainment.
