Alton, this quaint river town, has become known as "One of the Most Haunted Small Towns in America." Through the years we've had many travelers investigate and inquire about the unexplained happenings and psychic phenomena found throughout the haunted hills of Alton. It is through these experiences that common stories of the hauntings of Alton have withstood the test of time.

Today, several experienced psychics and paranormal investigators offer guided haunted tours to satisfy your appetite for quality haunting experiences. Alton's Most Haunted House...the notorious McPike Mansion has been featured on several television shows and investigated by numerous paranormal investigators who have found the haunting of the McPike Mansion to be authentic.

A long, dark and often bloody history of floods, epidemics, death, murder, the Civil War, the Underground Railroad and more make the small town of Alton a treasure trove of strange and ghostly tales, dark history and haunted destinations. From the smallpox catastrophes at the Confederate Prison to the mob killing of martyr Elijah P. Lovejoy, many curses clouded the future of Alton.

Many blame limestone rock for so much paranormal activity in Alton. Most of Alton either sits on limestone or has neighborhoods of houses built using limestone. Our region is rich with limestone, from the bluffs that adorn the Great River Road to the architectural wonders that make up 'Millionaire's Row.' It is this limestone that is said to retain the psychic residue of events that can still be experienced today. For more information and a list of haunted tour providers, click here.
