Glide Along on a Segway Tour
Enjoy a scenic glide along the Mississippi River into downtown Alton. Scenic Segway Tours are now being offered in Alton. Tours begin in the evening as the sun is beginning to set. Special history tours will be offered through the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Hartford. Alton tours depart from the National Great Rivers Museum as riders glide along on the Confluence Bike Trail through Riverfront Park and into downtown Alton. During the tour, participants will receive an orientation to segways, hear tales of Alton's legends, see views of river tows and recreational boats, as well as fantastic photo opportunities of the Clark Bridge.
What is a Segway?
The Segway Human Transporter is the first of its kind - a self-balancing personal transportation device designed to go anywhere people do. These two-wheeled high tech gyroscopes automatically respond to your body's movement, sensing when it should speed up and low down. Segways allow you to glide effortlessly through any environment as you stand on a small platform between two wheels, holding on the handlebar.
Can anyone take a tour?
You must be at least 12 years of age to ride a segway. Riders should have the ability to climb and descend stairs without assistance, have full use of both hands and be free of back, knee of hip problems.
What types of tours are available?
Tours are offered from May through October. There are a variety of tours from lunch and dinner glides to historical treks. Go to the monthly listings to find available dates.
