From Beyond the Grave

If you listen, you might hear them...the voices from beyond the grave during Vintage Voices.  That's right...you can see dead people at the Alton City Cemetery.  Since 2001, charcters from Alton's past have come alive the in Alton City Cemetery during the annual Vintage Voices guided cemetery tour.  Intriguing characters from Alton's harried past come alive Saturday, Oct. 6, 13, 20 & 27 at the annual Vintage Voices cemetery tour.

This year marks the 11th Anniversary of the event and celebrates the "Leading Ladies & City Fathers." Members of the Alton Little Theater will portray many of the interesting characters from Alton's past.  This year, the historical personas include Rufus Eason, Viola Voss, Sarah Duncan and a few others.

Eleven actor/historians will "bring to life" some of Alton's most interesting citizens as the city continues to celebrate its 175th anniversary. The Mayor will help kick off the first tour and the 3/4 mile easy walking tour (approximately one hour) will give individuals and groups a chance to learn about the women and men who shaped the city's rich history, to view some beautiful vintage costumes and to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the City and National Cemetery.

The program will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on select Saturdays in October in the Alton City Cemetery at Fifth and Vine streets. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $6 for students with ID.  Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Alton Visitor Center, located at 200 Piasa St. in Downtown Alton (across from Argosy Casino). Advance tickets will also be sold at the Season Ticket Window during the run of Southern Hospitality Sept. 21 - 30.  The day of the event, tickets may be purchased at the cemetery.
