Scott Isringhausen, site interpreter at Pere Marquette State Park, will be presenting informative programs about bald eagles this winter. Visitors will learn to distinguish between immature and mature bald eagles, what eagles eat, why they spend winter months in the area and much more. All programs will begin at the park's visitor center at 8:30 a.m. Reservations are required. There will be a short video presentation followed by an observational drive to view the wintering bald eagles. Please dress warmly and have a full tank of gas. We invite you to come view the magnificent birds in their natural habitat. Take a day-long adventure of eagle and wildlife spotting with Bluff City Tours. See how maple trees are tapped, sap collected and cooked down to syrup at the only public maple syrup sugarbush in the Riverbend area. Saps runs are totally dependent on Mother Nature. Email hindelang@gtec.com for weekly updates and midweek hours. Open every weekend from January 20 to March 4, 2007, weather permitting. This is an all outdoor event so dress appropriately as it can be muddy. No pets please.

Winter is a great time to appreciate the wild birds in our area. Join us on Saturday, January 27 for a Bird Walk led by professional birder, Johanna Shipley. Sure it's a little cold outside, but the birds are still out there. Why not take a walk and see how many birds you can identify? Bring binoculars and dress for the weather. Attend an informational session on how you can participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). The GBBC is an annual event sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. The count is a way for participants to learn about the birds around them and to help with conservation efforts. This year the McCully Heritage Project is encouraging participation in the GBBC as a way to promote the appreciation of the diverse bird species in the area. This informational session we will tell you how you can participate from the comfort of you own living room. Get all the material you need and find out how to submit the data you collect. The session on January 27 will be followed at 3:00 by a Bird Walk on the MHP trails lead by professional birder Johanna Shipley. Plan to attend, bring your binoculars, and dress for the weather. Warm & Wooly Applique Retreat
